BC Garn

Fresh yarns with a Scandinavian look

BC Garn is the brand with the most GOTS-certified yarns in the entire industry. BC Garn stands for natural and sustainable yarns that actively contribute to a sustainable and ethical fashion industry. The traditional Danish company BC Garn was founded in 1996 by Bo Carstensen, who came from a family of weavers. The focus has always been on developing yarns made from natural fibers in a wide range of colours. In spring 2018, Marianna and Bo handed over "their baby" to Britta and Carsten Kremke, who are continuing the yarn, colour and model range in the tradition of the Danish founders.

Jaipur Peace Silk
On an Eri silk worm farm in the Northeast of Thailand, the raw material for this wonderful silk yarn is harvested in a totally cruelty-free way: The cocoons of the Eri silkworm is a different breed than the mulberry silk worm. It lives on Maniok plants and spins a different kind of cocoon. The worm "eats his way out of the cocoon" and flies away before the cocoon is harvested by hand and then cooked to gain the precious thread. In the case of mulberry silk, the cocoons are cooked with the silk worms inside in order to obtain an endless thread. As far as our research shows, we are the only brand that offers this precious and eco-friendly yarn for the hand-knitting industry.
Eri silk has a subtle shimmer but is not as shiny as mulberry silk, because the thread is not endless, but just as heavy and therefore nicely drapy. It has a matte finish, look and feel, more resembling a bourette silk, although Jaipur Peace Silk is more evenly spun and is much more stable.

Summer in Kashmir
The name of this yarn says it all: Kashmir is a region in the Himalayan Mountains on 1700m altitude. The climate in summer is mild, sometimes even chilly. So Summer in Kashmir offers all the properties needed in these regions. It is a wonderfully soft cotton refined with 10% of cashmere. The combination of these two materials makes this GOTS certified organic yarn a popular partner for all year round, for various climate zones, for inside and outside, for young and old. The small percentage of cashmere gives the yarn a delicate softness, which can be seen when you hold the yarn against light, but as the yarn is not "fluffy-hairy" it is also very suitable for baby clothes.
The cotton is grown on GOTS certified farms in Turkey, the Cashmere is from Mongolia. The yarn is spun and dyed in Turkey.

Composition
90% cotton, 10% cashmere.

Tussah Tweed
Tussah Tweed is an exciting and exclusive yarn with fine tweed texture and an interesting stitch definition. It is processed from the cocoons of wild butterflies which are allowed to flee the cocoon before it is processed into silk. Thus Tussah Tweed can be called a "cruelty-free silk". Tussah Tweed is very stable and feels a bit rough at the beginning, but gets softer and softer the more you wash and wear it. For this reason, it is not only suitable for hand knitting, but also for the knitting machine, for weaving and embroidery.

Composition
100% silk
