Erika Knight
Welcome to the home of Erika Knight yarns! Born in Britain, with a passion to support indigenous fibres, heritage mills and traditional crafts the Erika Knight yarn collection is concise and considered with fibres and colours carefully selected so that you can be confident in choosing a beautiful, quality yarn for whatever you choose to create. When launching the brand in 2012, Erika’s ethos was to keep things simple: to support British manufacturing where possible, to promote sustainable, natural fibres and to celebrate both traditional skills and modern innovation. We still have the same mission today with Erika’s ethos at the heart of everything we do, the Erika Knight brand has a much loved and quintessentially British aesthetic with designs and colours inspired by the landscape.
Studio Linen
Linen is an ancient, sustainable natural fibre spun from the flax plant. Flax itself is naturally resistant to pests and therefore practically no pesticides nor herbicides are necessary to grow these eco-friendly stem fibre plants. Flax plants produce large amounts of useable fibre per acre and do not require irrigation.
To create Studio Linen, industrial waste linen fibres are selected, undone and re-spun with 15% premium natural linen fibres to create a beautiful and unique recycled yarn. With a dry hand feel, cool drape and subtle sheen, a yarn that just gets better with wear and age. An ancient fibre recycled for a modern maker.
Composition
85% viscose (recycled linen), 15% linen
Metreage ~120m/50g
Needle size 3,5-4 mm
Wild Wool
Wild Wool is a sustainable blend of soft wool and natural nettle.
Spun from the fibre found inside the stem of the plant, nettle has been used for 2000 years for its strength and durability as a textile. Nettle is grown abundantly and perennially in rainy areas worldwide without the need for harmful pollutants or pesticides, making it eco-friendly and sustainable.
Blended with luxurious wool the nettle enhances the character of this yarn, adding insulation and texture, which contrary to its prickly persona, creates a sumptuously soft ‘aran’ weight yarn in a palette of irresistible colours inspired by the wild.
Composition
85% wool, 15% viscose (made from nettle)
Metreage ~170m/100g
Needle size 4-5 mm
Moorland Mohair
Discover the most luxurious sock yarn! Erika Knight Moorland Mohair is designed as a natural sock yarn without any polyamide, but it can do so much more! The special blend of 80% BFL (Bluefaced Leicester) and 20% mohair shimmers with an elegant luster and flows effortlessly over your needles as you knit. The wool from BFL sheep is soft, durable, and takes dye exceptionally well, giving it a fine, natural sheen. The luxurious mohair added to the mix ensures fluffy socks that are long-lasting and made entirely from natural materials. This is not only good for your feet but also for the environment.
Tip: Judge your knitting after washing! Due to the fine 2-ply twist, the knit might look a bit uneven before washing but becomes wonderfully even and beautiful after washing.
Composition
80% wool (Blue Faced Leicester), 20% mohair
